This addition to an existing house creates a garden 'zen' space- a creative retreat for the clients. The small jewel box addition is located at grade with the garden, making new visual and physical connections to the landscape. Large sliding doors further this ability to open up the whole space in spring and summer months.

On the interior, a single woodstove placed on polished concrete floors with walls clad in baltic birch plywood, further a sense of warmth and materiality. The jewel box is clad in western cedar which is durable, weathers to a soft grey and has a natural aromatic quality reminiscent of traditional retreat spaces.
