Music Room

A modest addition to a historic North End Halifax house, this project creates a quiet retreat for music, reflection, and connection to the garden. Conceived as a simple and elegant box inserted alongside the existing home, the addition acts as a calm counterpoint to the texture and irregularity of the older structure. Clad in finely detailed western cedar, the exterior is designed to weather naturally over time, while the interior is lined almost entirely in warm Baltic birch plywood, creating a soft and immersive atmosphere. A new entry sequence draws light deep into the house and establishes visual connections between interior spaces and the surrounding landscape. Carefully framed corner windows and restrained detailing heighten the sense of stillness and retreat. At grade, the project opens directly onto a sheltered garden terrace, extending the living and music spaces outward.
