The design is a counterpoint to the pre-existing Gothic-revival cottage set in a sweeping oceanside meadow. Against the verticality of the cottage, the addition sits very low and long, evoking ancient barns. Metal cladding wraps the roof and walls, interrupted only by weathered larch-clad “boxes” which provide defined program spaces. The interior accommodates new living areas, an open kitchen, and a garage. The design, like much of our work, feels simultaneously contextual and modern.
